Why did The Beatles cross the road?

Now that there's a permanent live webcam (with sound?) filming that zebra crossing, just watch how often the tourists try to recreate the album cover. It must drive local residents and motorists crazy.

In the days before digital technology, however, do we think this is what really happened on that August morning in 1969?

Interestingly, it wasn't the first time the lads had been snapped crossing the road together. In their pre-moptop incarnation a local toggy followed them around Liverpool for the day and, unwittingly, predated the iconic album sleeve by nearly a decade.

  1. Ha! I love that webcam, within seconds of taking a peep there was plenty of attempts..some nearly ending in a mess.
You're right though..bet it drives motorists insane.

  3. You'd think so wouldn't you? But I've only been over it in the car. How about you?

  4. that webcam is oddly addictive... and great quality too. Don't think I've seen one with sound before either (although a bit wasted on this one!).

And I also got a re-creation attempt within a minute of tuning in!
